Intellectual property (IP) at the University
Creating, managing and using IP (both your own and others) is a core element of academic life. IP represents the property of your mind or intellect - knowledge, discoveries and inventions in material form. It includes ‘know-how,’ trade secrets, patents, trademarks, industrial designs, reports, publications, and literary and artistic works (
see full definition). With the exception of copyright and circuit layout rights, which are automatic, you must take formal steps to register IP and obtain the legal rights of ownership.
