AEC member resources
The Victorian government publishes a resource kit for AEC members compiled to help them understand their role and optimise their contribution. It is available in two parts:
| Part One [pdf, 1.21mb] | Part Two: appendices [pdf, 1.61mb] |
| • Animal Use Regulation and Guidance | • Role of the Veterinarian |
| • Roles, Attributes and Responsibilities | • Guidance for Category D members |
| • The Three R’s | • Effective Searching for the 3Rs |
| • Guide to Assessing a Project | • Design of Animal Experiments |
| • Animal Housing and Care | • Site Inspections List for AECs |
AEC members should also be fully acquainted with the Australian Code of Practice for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes (NHMRC). The Code defines how animal work should be overseen and monitored, and identifies general principles governing the ethical and humane use and care of animals. This is accompanied by Guidelines to Promote the Well-being of Animals Used for Scientific Purposes, which provides detailed and practical advice on most aspects of experimental protocol. Use our categorised A-Z of Animal Welfare to access this and further guidance.
