Adding a new investigator
Amendments that solely involve the addition of new investigators to approved projects are approved “out of session” by the Animal Ethics Committee Chair and Animal Welfare Officer. These can be submitted at any time and will be reviewed immediately. There are two methods for submission, depending on when the original approval was granted:
1. Pre-2007 projects:
- Complete a New Investigator Amendment Form (rtf, 114kb)
- Submit ONE signed original to the Animal Ethics group
2) Post-Jan 2007 (Themis projects):
Completed on Themis via the following steps:
- Go to the Animal Ethics Workbench and locate Request for Amendment at the top of the page. Click the Create button
- Click the Create button next to the relevant project in the list of Ethics Applications Available for Amendment
- Complete all sections of the Amendment Details cover sheet (Step 1), replying Yes only to the question on Personnel. Add the new investigator's name and briefly explain the reason for their addition to the project. Include also the proposed start date of the investigator.
- In the Personnel section of the main form (Step 12) add the new investigator including personal details, involvement in project, qualifications/experience and any training requirements. It is essential that each procedure to be undertaken by the investigator is added on a separate line. Amendments with all procedures aggregated into one line will not be accepted.
- Submit the application via Step 17 on Themis (no paper copies or communication with the Research Office required)
What happens next?
You will be informed by email when the new investigator has been approved. Only at that point may they begin performing their designated project duties in respect of live animal work.
